The electric 12v vacuum pump has been designed for non-steam traction or to supply vacuum to a train being hauled by a non fitted loco or as a backup system. The pump is fitted with an on/off switch, adjustable vacuum level control, relay and non-return valve, all mounted and piped ready to run.
The pump unit is supplied ready to use all that is required when installed in a system is to turn on and let the vacuum switch run the system automatically. The system should hardly need to run unless of course in the case of someone not ensuring that all vacuum connections are good and the end tails are on their dollies.
It should be remembered that when a different locomotive and/or vacuum generator are to be used on a fitted set, it is wise to expose all vacuum reservoirs to atmospheric pressure and re-evacuate to the current vacuum limit in use. The vacuum high limit is set by a switch mounted with the pump. Please note no other limiter of electrical or mechanical type should be used in conjunction with the pump.
